Kato Pafos

If you're done with beaching for a bit in Paphos, head toward town and one of the more impressive ruins on the island, Kato Pafos. The complex is on a beautiful bluff and you can see remains of Roman villas and a Medieval castle.

Rock city.

A mosaic at the house of Theseus. Short column.

Row of columns.

Nature, taking over. Remnants of the castle.

The Roman Odeon.

Peeking At Paphos, Cyprus

Ahh, the sun, the beach, the Mediterranean sea. One place to find these elements is Paphos, Cyprus. The international tourists come, or at least they used to, in droves. Now, or at least in the offseason, Paphos looks a little lonely. Perfect for photographing.

If you're looking for old Paphos, head to the harbor area.

Closed waterfront attraction.  Robin not doing his job?

Abandoned tennis courts.

Closed hotel; partially drained pool.

Empty lobby; empty parking lot.

Back at the beach, the sun rising, but no action.

Cyprus Church Architecture

The churches in Cyprus follow common rules of architecture and design. Humble exteriors, regimented seating and an altar area rich in ornamentation.

Heavy masonry walls, simple exteriors.

Barrel vault interiors with stiff, upright seating. No doubt, you're paying attention.

Altar areas feature an elaborate gold wall.

Two more altars, an overflow of color and glam for the eyes.

Another exterior view.

Bonding With Nature In Cyprus

Cyprus has lots of features to attract visitors (and expat retirees). Beaches, climate, laid back cities. And then there's the beautiful countryside. Let's go.

How green is their valley? Green.

And flowering, with small towns.

A cherry tree lane and an orchard.

Dam!

Lines across the sky, rainbow and utility.

The view from Kourion. No doubt about it, Mediterranean blue.

Limassol Castle, Cyprus

Right in the middle of the old part of Limassol sits an imposing castle. Largely rebuilt around 1590 by the Ottomans, the castle stands as a sturdy sign of past battles.

Looking like a giant rock.

Nice triple height, double barrel vaulted ceilings. Heading out.

The view of Limassol from the roof.

Ancient carvings. Is that a guitar pick on the left? Rock on!

Watching the clouds drift by.

Ye Little Church Of Peristerona

About a half hour west of Nicosia, there's a lovely little town with a lovely little church. The town is small and the church smaller. Tiny delights.

Compact car, compact church.

Subtle seating.

Details.
