Melaka Sultanate Palace Museum

Live like the Sultanates did. Or at least imagine that lifestyle. The Sultanate museum in Melaka is a good place to start letting your mind wander. They did a nice job, building a wood replica of a palace that originally dated to around the late 1400s. The museum opened in 1986.

Mighty Muara Takus

One of the better ruins to see on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia is Muara Takus. It's located in Kampar Regency in Riau province, about a three-hour drive from the town of Pekanbaru.

Understated beauty is the impression of this Buddhist temple complex, a small group of three structures, each a unique design. The temples date from the 11th and 12th centuries.

Most of the temples are made with red sandstone, with half of one temple, Candi Bungsu, finished in a more upscale white stone.

The most impressive temple is Candi Mahigal. Its round tower is about 40 feet tall.

Finish details, nice brick work. Not all of the temples have survived, a brick pile all that's left over from a former structure.
