The Museum Of Healthcare Uzbekistan

There's a nice mash-up of a museum in Tashkent, dedicated to healthcare, medicine, history, teaching, propaganda, Soviet socialist art. Something for everyone.

A time capsule. The place was founded in 1973 by a Moscow professor. Since then, no renovations. Yay!

Some way back history, a room dedicated to what healthcare looked like during the 1800s. Wander to the bazaar and find a doctor. A diorama that shows a little incense healing. Not sure a pleasant waft is going to be the cure.

The highlight of the museum space, the painted doors to each gallery. The illustrations look like stained glass and each set features a different Soviet, Uzbek archetype.

Moments immortalized of medical triumph during The Great Patriotic War, known as WWII in the West.

Another diorama, this one featuring a snazzy, new (at the time) facility, Uzbekistan Hospital. Alas, it's located in Russia. It's the thought that counts.

The Variety Of The Khodja Abdi Darun Madrasa Complex

It's nice to visit an active madrasa, mosque, holy site in Samarkand, a place still used and not turned into a tourist stop museum. The Khodja Abdi Darun complex offers such an opportunity.

The main mosque, nestled in a courtyard among trees and a central fountain.

The simple and elegant, carved wood columns and the plain, understated interior of one of the mosques.

The interior of another intimate mosque. Similar, different, lovely.

Out back is a cemetery with the dome of the old mosque looming. Dusty plastic flowers surround a simple gravestone.

The future. A big madrasa is being built next to the mosques.
