Fun Sculpture On Cijin Island

Cijin Island has a nice, meandering beachside series of parks, punctuated with a handful of fun sculptures. They are Instagram aware.

First up, a reflecting pool with a rainbow cube and a pink metal church.

See the cross in the back? A Crayola box come to life.

Next, giant mosaic hearing aids against the water.

More fun with small tiles, stranded fish. Big, gold shell.

Getting an abstract view of the shell from its backside.

Taking The Ferry To Cijin Island

The quickest way to get to Cijin Island from mainland Kaohsiung is by ferry, a fun commuting experience.

Ferry terminal in Kaohsiung, tucked right into an old neighborhood.

Who's on board? The bottom deck is packed with scooters, a testament to the ferry's purpose as a regular commuter vehicle. Pulling away from the dock, blue water all around.

As one approaches Cijin Island, a nice row of port-side painted tanks come into view.

Views from the water, ferry and Cijin Island ferry terminal.

Enough sightseeing, rev the scooter and head out, time to reload for the return journey.

Checking Out Cijin Island

Cijin island is a long spit of land right across the harbor from Kaohsiung. It naturally has a laid back, seaside vibe. Time to see the landmarks.

Gotta have a beach.

You need plenty of places to have a seat, areas to contemplate the sea. Funky yellow beachside windmills are fun. Add an angry mosaic crab.

Hilltop historic fort, good for school field trips. Bring 'em in and out.

Jetty? Check. Pristine white lighthouse built by the British? Check.

The view back to Kaohsiung, timeless.
