The Nice Variety Of Sculpture At Kyaw Aung San Dar Monastery

Beyond the collection of giant Buddhas, Kyaw Aung San Dar Monastery has an impressive collection of all sorts of other religious sculptures, Buddha and otherwise.

One big Buddha or many smaller ones? Both!

Bloodshot brown monkey with claws, genitals hanging down, maybe holding a piece of meat. Did we miss anything? Back to Buddha and reclining, this time smaller in scale.

Outside, gold stupas and super-neat piles of leaves and branches.

White elephant with flowers and fun with perspective.

Buddha, busting through the ceiling, perhaps to get closer to God.

The Big Buddhas At Kyaw Aung San Dar Monastery

Go big Buddha or go home. At Kyaw Aung San Dar Monastery south of Mandalay, they definitely chose the big option.

First up is lying down. Reclining Buddhas are popular in Southeast Asia, the bigger, the better. the ceiling groans under the space needed.

Details. Long wire eyelashes, doubling as anti-bird defense. Robe folds and hand.

Flower offering bench for scale.

Mystery solved, what the bottom of Buddha's feet look like. Unique. In another part of the property, standing and sitting Buddha, back to back.

Another giant sitting Buddha. "Bow down, white elephant!"
