Details At Mahamuni Buddha Temple

It's not all dripping gold Buddha at Mahamuni Buddha Temple. The complex has several buildings and various places for prayers, offerings, some history.

And buying. Don't forget your holy souvenir.

Whole Buddha fantasy lands have been created. This one concentrated on water offerings for each day of the week. Or being a train set background.

Full blown genre scene, honoring Buddha in a colorful forest setting.

Sunsets, deer and rabbits, it's all Nirvana when Buddha is around.

A building is devoted to giant history paintings to, who else, Buddha. The information overload can bring one to her knees.

Mighty Mandalay Mahamuni Buddha Temple

The most celebrated Buddhist temple in Mandalay and most of Myanmar is Mahamuni. It purportedly contains one of only five true likenesses of Buddha in the world. For this honor, special attention is heaped.

The grand temple, in perfect shape, square and otherwise.

Worshippers lining up in a corridor that leads to the main Buddha statue. The place is revered and people come all dressed up for their own ceremonies.

The complex is so popular that the temple needs to live feed the Buddha statue to many areas so people can witness the proceedings.

The attraction? Buddha can only be visited by men and those men are busy giving offerings in the form of gold leaf squares. They march up and lay on the leaf. It's all there to see in the monitors. Buddha is literally dripping in gold.

Cuteness, maxed.
