The Amazing Animals At The Perak Museum In Taiping, Growl Edition

Taiping has a nice history museum, particularly a big room of animal taxidermy. No need to roam the jungle for weeks to track down your favorite species, they're all there, complete with snarling faces. Let's see who has their game face.

There are mostly small cats, squirrels, other little creatures of the jungle. Beyond the amazing expressions, the quality, age and interpretive license of the taxidermy work makes an impression.

Details Of Taiping, Malaysia

A quick look around Taiping.

Shopping mall advertisement. Yum.

Off to the old market, banana pile and pile of vendor receipts.

Fish prices, err, chopped.

Stencil graffiti. On the left, film legend P. Ramlee. Right, looks like the invitation list to a Fellini dinner party.

Simple marketing.

Grand Old Buildings Of Taiping, Malaysia

The British left their mark in Taiping, leaving behind some grand old buildings that have been lovingly preserved and some left to ruin. And some structures straddling those conditions.

On the beautiful restored side, St. Georges Institution, an all boys Catholic school that opened in 1915.

Down the block, another old school, King Edward VII National School. There's less of a restoration to this campus. This building dates to 1904. In town, a typical shophouse.

Waiting for restoration with an appropriate name.

Rotting and desperate for restoration, a couple of wood and concrete municipal buildings. The only thing improving is the heavy patina.

Taiping is known for its urban gardens with lovely views from old verandas.
