Getting Social At Han Chin Pet Soo In Ipoh

There's a great museum in Ipoh that explores local mining, Chinese barons and social club activities. Relive the past of making a fortune in tin and then blowing it on opium.

The museum is housed in the actual social club, a great example of Art Deco Ipoh architecture. It was renovated in 1929 into its present style.

The highlights of the museum are the mannequins, illustrating mining, smoking, game playing, whatever was deemed worthy of inclusion.

First up, showing the hard work of mining.

More mining and also the kitchen labor.

Enough of the tough life, once you've made your fortune, time to get your leisure on. Who's up for some mahjong?

The characters hanging at the club are great, like some sort of Victorian mystery. The femme fatale and the smoker.

It was the age of opium, quite the popular pastime.

More sleuthy characters.
You definitely don't want to beat this shifty officer.
