Getting Wild At The Institute for Nature Study In Tokyo

Do you wonder what Tokyo would look like if humans had never developed it? No need, just head to a lovely, wild park run by the fine folks at the Institute for Nature Study. No buttoned down traditional Japanese gardens with koi pond, manicured trees. Just forest, meadow and water.

Into the garden. The place is popular with families and nature lovers. Or both.

Drawing or photographing, get started. One of the highlights of the park, a giant, historic pine tree.

In the middle of Tokyo? Yup.

There's a small field house with a few exhibits. Back outside, time for solo reflection.

A few vantage points reveal the urban landscape beyond the oasis.
