Checking Out The Cheng Ho Cultural Museum

Time to see all things Cheng Ho. The man was a major Ming Admiral way back in the 1400s, amassing a fortune and building a dynasty in maritime trade. The museum in Melaka is thought to be on the site of one of his warehouses. It's a big complex, a combo of several floors and shophouses.

The museum gives a good, somewhat exhaustive look at his exploits, what high seas ships and trade looked like back then and what kind of objects one could collect. Short answer: too much of everything.

Trade was what it was all about and the vendors peddling their goods.

Big in Asia, spices. A re-creation of the Admiral's ship office.

Plenty of models in the museum, here showing ships.

More models. Plastic food. Plastic trees.

Whoa. Fun with perspective. Somehow, it's doubtful the town was laid out in quite such neat a grid.
