Grand Old Buildings Of Taiping, Malaysia

The British left their mark in Taiping, leaving behind some grand old buildings that have been lovingly preserved and some left to ruin. And some structures straddling those conditions.

On the beautiful restored side, St. Georges Institution, an all boys Catholic school that opened in 1915.

Down the block, another old school, King Edward VII National School. There's less of a restoration to this campus. This building dates to 1904. In town, a typical shophouse.

Waiting for restoration with an appropriate name.

Rotting and desperate for restoration, a couple of wood and concrete municipal buildings. The only thing improving is the heavy patina.

Taiping is known for its urban gardens with lovely views from old verandas.
