Onto the Timket ceremony, the big day of Epiphany. The event looked similar to Timket Eve, except more people. Lots more people.
Time to follow the crowd again, which wasn't hard to do. You knew where they were going and didn't really have an option but to go with the flow of humanity.
Make room, here come the big priests. Once gathered, the priests perform the ceremony in a makeshift circle, crowds pressing in.
The clothes were amazing.
A little drumming ensued. And watching from the edge of the circle.
Did we mention a lot of watching?
Many young disciples holding elaborate crosses. Once the ceremony ended, the priests were on the march again, through the crowd.
And always watched.

Thank you for these posts. I'm trying to decide between Gondar and Axum for Timkat 2015, and there is very little about Axum. Gondar was spectacular when I went last year, looking for same this year.
