Walking Around Kaohsiung City, Taiwan

Hitting the highlights, the midlights and none of the lowlights of Kaohsiung in Taiwan. It's the second largest city on the island, a port powerhouse, home to 2.7 million people.

The view of part of center city from across the Love River. It used to be a typical polluted, industrial afterthought and now it's a waterside pedestrian park.

The old port area, now more of a shopping, arcade, leisure spot. Sound familiar, Harborplace? Maritime commerce is still present and the custom headquarters is still located in the port area. Funky curves.

Urban renewal progression and regression.

Historical gem, the green tile Deco old city hall, now the history museum. Much of the town is dominated by '60s architecture, this curved building now just a giant billboard.

The trippy Formosa metro station underground plaza.

Layout-wise, plenty of wide, straight streets, an exception for much of Southeast Asia. Some sculptural bling in Kaohsiung's main park.

Back to the Love River, also a nice night view.
