The Golconda Standard

In Hyderabad, there's a giant hilltop fort called Golconda. It's a large complex, built over many years with a long history. Started in the 12th century, the fort evolved into a Brahmin stronghold by 1363 and was found basically abandoned by 1820. Another tidbit: the fort housed the Hope diamond at one time.

It's a huge complex with the outer wall stretching to five kilometers around. Being up a hill, it's a Masada-like city. Suffice to say, mere blog photos cannot re-create the experience. For which you should be thankful, for it can be hot, sweaty and an endless march. Hurray for editing!

Fresh crowds starting the ascent. The building at the tippy top of the fort complex. Or as we like to sell it, The Fort.

Imposing walls, (im)posing people. We made it halfway up, take our picture while we're still standing!

Ok, things are getting brutal here, time to throw on the towel.
