While there is an established Chinatown in Kuala Lumpur, the parts that haven't been plowed under for modern skyscrapers have basically turned into generic cheap shopping opportunities. Too bad -- it must have been more interesting to frequent the brothels and gambling joints than to snag a pair of fake Puma sneakers.
The old vs the new. There are motions for the old, more interesting and historically significant architecture to be preserved.
Otherwise, it's a typical urban renewal gesture of slapping some sort of arcade roof over a street and amping up the shopping. Milan it ain't. A future post will show you what it is.
