We showed you one of the Chinese association clan houses in Penang, also known as a Kongsi. Impressive. But one good Kongsi deserves another and here is what seems to be the Granddaddy complex of the half dozen or so associations scattered around town.

The inviting front porch and intricate carving. An old art history term comes to mind, "horror vacui," from the Latin for "fear of empty spaces." Heeded well by the architect.
