The trishaw, a cousin of the traditional rickshaw, is ubiquitous in Penang. Tri is for tricycle and shaw comes from rickshaw. Smash those vehicles together and you get a trishaw. Let's take a ride.
Here's a typical passenger trishaw, prowling the street for customers. The picture on the right is an example of a cargo version.
The trishaws come in a couple of colors: red is used mostly by owners who are into customizing their ride, while yellow seemed to be reserved for the basic model. Seems about right, yellow for the more standard yellow cab versions.
The wilder trishaws appeared more often at night. We guess under a starry sky, after a few drinks, a loud trishaw looks more inviting for a romantic jaunt.
