Incense burning is big in Penang, mainly in little trays/shrines tacked onto the front of your shophouse. For Chinese Buddhists, the burning is a way to offer a sacrificial offering to a deity and also to purify the area. The trays are all over Georgetown, in all sorts of designs.
Here's a line of trays down a typical street.
They come in a wide variety of styles, from pre-fab purchased to slightly augmented to built from scratch. Red seems to be the color to abide by, but after that, feel free to craft what you want.
Maybe add a little pineapple for good luck? Stick on some bling above the tray?
Now we're getting a little "can you top this shrine?" Starting an incense stick race? At a Chinese temple, incense burning really gets fired up (sorry) and the shrines take over every nearby surface.
