Arubathimoovar Festival At Kapaleeswarar

Every spring there's a big, week-long plus festival to 63 saints and Lord Shiva at Chennai's main Hindu temple, Kapaleeswarar. It's quite a scene with throngs of the faithful, huge chariots circling the temple and endless ceremonies.

The chariots (and these are tiny examples) doing their circle of the temple area.

This girl is impressed! Oil offerings, left behind to burn in the street.

There are lots of diversions to indulge in, such as getting a fortune told. By a parrot. Why not?

A small slice of the throngs. A kolam contest -- always beautiful.
