Merry Marimekko

How can you not smile when seeing Marimekko?

The Marimekko designs are iconic in Finland, now around long enough to be considered an official national treasure. Just check out Finnair, which uses Marimekko-inspired napkins. In a country that spends a long winter looking at nothing but grey, the bold colors and designs from Marimekko are a certain cheer up.

It's obvious when you come across a Marimekko store, the color palette segues from bland to bright. The contemporary art museum had a show that featured artists' works that were inspired by Marimekko designs and stylistic tendencies. Lady and lampshade.

Fabulous frocks, both photographed and modeled.

A candy rose. Really?

Yup, the centerpiece of the exhibit and an amazing candy collage. Bravo!

  1. That's pretty neat! Like a Willy Wonka factory-museum.
