Salt Mines, Bali Style

They're mining salt in Bali, but not by digging a giant hole in the ground. It's right in the sea for the taking and they're busy taking it onto the beach and extracting the salt by using a basic method of funnels, logs and evaporation.

A typical salt operation, a lot of hurry up and wait. And maybe not much hurry up. Ahh, island style.

Once the water has been funneled, it's spread among rows and rows of dug out logs for evaporation. Best to enjoy the final dry crystals than to dwell on the brackish water process.

What happens to logs not being used? They're stacked and become a nice shade spot for stray dogs.
