Taipei Temple Totems

The small temples throughout Taipei are a delight to visit, each unique and tucked into the urban fabric. Occasionally, temples will feature striking figures, a bit of a shock to the sedate exteriors.

A couple of deities you wouldn't want to cross in a dark alley. We especially love the hair covered in plastic like so many sofas covered in clear vinyl from yesteryear. Oh, and crackers are big.

An all-star team of Gods. The animal avatars are fantastic.

Slightly more traditional figures, or at least what un-trained Westerners might think of as traditional. Glowing gold and a God with the super-long wise beard.

Temple doors can also get in on the action with richly detailed portraits. Amazing work.
