Everyday Bathing At The Kumbh Mela

The processions of sadhus and their ash-covered avatars get all the press on their big bathing days, but every day is a wonderful day at the Kumbh to make the pilgrimage, gather the family and partake in the special bathing. At its most basic, the Kumbh Mela is two months of Hindu devotion, including bathing anytime.

Family portrait, bathing.

It still looks like Coney Island on a summer weekend and the emphasis is on families. Like these cute sisters.

Another bather.

The kids get a little shy before the big splash. But once in, it's all devotion.

A couple of portraits.

Sadhus still bathe on their own, as they see fit. Or plop down and read among the activity.

But not for long, it is all about the serenity of the holy bath.
