Top Temple

Way up a hill north of the Nepal town of Bhaktapur sits the charming temple called Changu Narayan. It's a jewel in the valley, off on its own, not crowded and a nice retreat from most of the other temples found in urban locations. The temple dates to the fifth century AD and was rebuilt around 1700. It's a small complex, as temples go in Nepal, but the carving and details are top notch.

Enter through the gift shop. Please, ask Vishnu for what you wish, do not beg.

Put a little makeup on a stone dragon and suddenly he gets all animated. Some of the rich detail of the temple.

Lighting candles. Be careful. If the flame goes out, the canines move in to lick the cooking oil you were using.
