Kailasanathar Temple In Kanchipuram

Whew, that's a mouthful. And the stunning seventh century Hindu temple is also an eyeful. It's a sublime, not too big, heavily-carved early example of Dravidian architecture. Whatever the significance, it's great to look at and explore.

The lovely temple.

One of the young faithful. Why so serious? Entering the phantasmagoric courtyard.

Don't forget to tip the man for watching your shoes.

The carving is outrageous, both in detail and amount. There's still paint left on some of the little courtyard shrines.

Quite the way to pay your humble respect to Lord Shiva.
