Down By The Hooghly River In Kolkata

Kolkata was founded on the mighty Hooghly river, a perfect waterway to shuffle goods and everything else from the Bay of Bengal up to the Ganges River. Plenty of ships still ply the waters of the Hooghly.

And also plenty of people. Bathing, cleaning of laundry, hopping a ferry boat to the other side, it's all done at the banks of the Hooghly river.

Men bathing.

Post-bath, time for a little sip of tea. Portrait of two girls by the river.

Maybe after bathing you're ready for a riverside shave? The barbershop is right behind him.

The ticket booth for the ferry.
