Say (Panir) Cheese At Kolkata's New Market

You got your eggs, now it's time to get your cheese. Panir is the cheese of India, ubiquitous in so many dishes all over the country. The cheese isn't aged, so you can literally buy fresh cheese every day. Time to pick up a kilo.

The sign that says, "Come and get it."

The inviting case holding the dairy delight.

The cheese merchants, prepping and slicing panir.

A happy customer with his bag o' cheese. What's up next? The butter merchant.

  1. I love this series of buying food in India. I LOVE Panir and just discovered it here in Addis Ababa. Amazingly, there is a wonderful restaurant owned by an Indian family just down the street from us and it serves the most amazing Indian I've ever had. Panir is always on our list to order.
